Emerging Concern for Silver Nanoparticle Resistance in Acinetobacter baumannii and Other Bacteria

چکیده
The misuse of antibiotics combined with a lack newly developed ones is the main contributors to current antibiotic resistance crisis. There dire need for new and alternative antibacterial options nanotechnology could be solution. Metal-based nanoparticles, particularly silver nanoparticles (NAg), have garnered widespread popularity due their unique physicochemical properties broad-spectrum activity. Consequently, NAg has seen extensive incorporation in many types products across healthcare consumer market. Despite clear evidence strong efficacy NAg, studies raised concerns over development silver-resistant bacteria. Resistance cationic (Ag + ) been recognised years, but it recently found that bacterial also possible. It understood exposure bacteria toxic heavy metals like can induce emergence through process co-selection. Acinetobacter baumannii Gram-negative coccobacillus opportunistic nosocomial pathogen. was listed as “number one” critical level priority pathogen because significant rise this species. proven bactericidal activity towards A. , even against strains display multi-drug resistance. However, despite ample metal (including silver; Ag bacterium, reports metal-driven co-selection resistance, little research dedicated assessing potential . This worrisome, increasingly indiscriminate use promote species, what occurred antibiotics.

Copper Resistance of the Emerging Pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii.
Acinetobacter baumannii is an important emerging pathogen that is capable of causing many types of severe infection, especially in immunocompromised hosts. Since A. baumannii can rapidly acquire antibiotic resistance genes, many infections are on the verge of being untreatable, and novel therapies are desperately needed. To investigate the potential utility of copper-based antibacterial strateg...

The mechanism of plasmid mediated silver (Ag) resistance was investigated in Acinetobacter baumanniiBL54. The intracellular accumulation of Ag in both original strain BL54 and Escherichia coli K12transconjugant containing plasmid pUPI276 began immediately and reached a maximum within 60 minutes. This initial accumulation was followed by net loss of Ag which reached a maximum wi...

متن کاملCharacterization, Prevalence and Antibiotic Resistance of Acinetobacter baumannii Infecting Foodstuff
Background: Acinetobacter baumannii is a highly virulent bacterium. It causes opportunistic and nosocomial infections and is a threat to healthcare settings. It has also developed multidrug resistance (MDR) capacity. The nosocomial bacteria and antibiotic resistance are primordial and a significant public health concern. These bacteria and their threat can be prevented by reducing infected food...
متن کاملEffects of silver nanoparticles in combination with antibiotics on the resistant bacteria Acinetobacter baumannii
Acinetobacter baumannii resistance to carbapenem antibiotics is a serious clinical challenge. As a newly developed technology, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) show some excellent characteristics compared to older treatments, and are a candidate for combating A. baumannii infection. However, its mechanism of action remains unclear. In this study, we combined AgNPs with antibiotics to treat carbapen...
